When you rent an apartment or house, you will have to sign a rental agreement. You need to review it carefully and make sure you understand it. Ask questions. You want to know what items will be taken care of by the management and what items you will be your responsibility.

Your rental agreement should specify the rights you have as a tenant. If the apartment manager does not address your concerns, there should be another way for you to express your grievances. This may mean taking your concerns to the property management company, especially issues that involve safety.

As a renter, you have rights. But, you also have responsibilities. Read your rental agreement carefully. This will be your home and you should treat it as such.
